Restaurants:

There are many restaurants in the coastal town of Garrucha which specialise in fish dishes, using fish which is caught locally and brought into the fish market daily (Weekdays) on the dockside in the town. They can be expensive and only limited English is spoken in many as most of the holidaymakers and residents are Spanish.

In the resort itself, there are several small restaurants near Torremar and the Vera Playa hotel that serve quite good food at reasonable prices, especially Benito's. There is also a beach bar/restaurant that serves up to the early hours of the morning during peak season.

If you go into Mojacar beach and follow the signs for Mojacar (Pueblo), you will come to the old Moorish town itself, at the top of a steep hill. It gets very busy here during the evening but there are lots of bars and restaurants to choose from and it is extremely popular with the Spanish. The views from the top of the village are spectacular and well worth the drive. It is also worth a drive to Carbonerras, which is reached by driving all the way along the front at Mojacar beach until you see signs for this town. You then get to this small town by driving through a mountainous part of a national park that has the most incredible views, with a designated viewpoint. There are several small restaurants/bars/cafes in the town and along the front.

Along Mojacar Playa (Beach) there are literally dozens of places to eat, from traditional Spanish restaurants to Chinese, Indian, Italian, Thai and English places, so you can something different every day!  The Argentinian Steak restaurant (La Cabaņa) on the seafront is also worth a visit for those who like to eat an excellent steak.

If you visit Villaricos, The "La Esperanza" restaurant by the marina has a terrace overlooking the sea and serves lovely fish dishes.

There are several business cards with details of other eating places in the basket on the dresser or by the books on the bottom bookshelf.

Shops:

Within walking distance of the apartment is a new "Consum" supermarket selling almost everything edible or drinkable you could possibly want on your holiday. Above the supermarket is a new Chinese restaurant that comes highly recommended and is within staggering distance!

As you leave the complex and join the main road, turn left towards Garrucha, past the Parque Aquatico. Drive to the second roundabout and go all the way around it, taking the last turning off towards Puerto Rey. In the small commercial centre there is a large Coviran supermarket, which you can reach by cutting across the road with care. They sell very nice cuts of meat in here and the vegetables/fruit are good too.

If you want to try the Mercadona supermarket, where a lot of the local people shop and where the prices are very reasonable, turn left onto the main road as you leave Torremar, towards Garrucha. Go straight over the first two roundabouts and continue to the next one (Las Bouganvillas) then take the last turning off to the left, towards Garrucha. About 5 mins. along this road, on your left, is the supermarket. They have parking in front of the store and also behind it.

There is also a new Mercadona supermarket nearby off the main road towards Vera.

There is a large Intermarche on the main road leading into Vera, just on your left as you approach the town centre, which does sell a small range of English products.

If you want to go further afield, there is another good quality supermarket in Mojacar in the Centro Comercial, situated along the front of Mojacar beach, set back from the main road on your right. It is quite a long way along the sea front before you get to it but it is worth the drive as there are some nice bars and cafes in the centre as well.

There are lots of other places to shop as well but these are the best ones we have found so far.
